    Get PDF
The relevance of forests to sustain human well-being and the serious threats they face have led to a notable increase of research works on forest ecosystem services during the last few years. This paper analyses the worldwide research dynamics on forest ecosystem services in the period from 1998 to 2017. A bibliometric analysis of 4284 articles was conducted. The results showed that the number of published research articles has especially increased during the last five years. In total, 68.63% of the articles were published in this period. This research line experiences a growing trend superior to the general publishing trend on forest research. In spite of this increase, its relative significance within the forest research is still limited. The most productive subject areas corresponded to Environmental Science, Agricultural and Biological Sciences and Social Sciences Economic topics are understudied. The scientific production is published in a wide range of journals. The three first publishing countries are United States, China and the United Kingdom. The most productive authors are attached to diverse research centres and their contributions are relatively recent. A high level of international cooperation has been observed between countries, institutions and authors. The findings of this study are useful for researchers since they give them an overview of the worldwide research trends on forest ecosystem services

    Get PDF

    Get PDF

The influence of the liquid-to-biogas ratio (L/G) and alkalinity on methane quality was evaluated in a 11.7 m3 outdoors horizontal semi-closed tubular photobioreactor interconnected to a 45-L absorption column (AC). CO2 concentrations in the upgraded methane ranged from <0.1 to 9.6% at L/G of 2.0 and 0.5, respectively, with maximum CH4 concentrations of 89.7% at a L/G of 1.0. Moreover, an enhanced CO2 removal (mediating a decrease in CO2 concentration from 9.6 to 1.2%) and therefore higher CH4 contents (increasing from 88.0 to 93.2%) were observed when increasing the alkalinity of the AC cultivation broth from 42 ± 1 mg L−1 to 996 ± 42 mg L−1. H2S was completely removed regardless of the L/G or the alkalinity in AC. The continuous operation of the photobioreactor with optimized operating parameters resulted in contents of CO2 (<0.1%–1.4%), H2S (<0.7 mg m−3) and CH4 (94.1%–98.8%) complying with international regulations for methane injection into natural gas grids.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Study of the Decomposition of N-Nitrosonornicotine (NNN) under Inert and Oxidative Atmospheres: Effect of the Addition of SBA-15 and MCM-41

Nowadays, the use of tobacco biomass as an energy source is being valued. Therefore, it is important to know the processes that take place during combustion and pyrolysis, as well as the substances that are formed. In this work, we study the compounds obtained during the decomposition of NNN as a function of temperature under inert and oxidant atmospheres. Moreover, the effect of the addition of SBA-15 and MCM-41 is analyzed. Two different techniques, i.e., TG/FTIR (low heating rates) and EGA Py/GC/MS (high heating rates), are used. At low temperatures NNN is almost unaltered, but it is volatilized and dragged by the carrier gas. When increasing the temperature, decomposition takes place, with pyridines being one of the most abundant compounds observed. The main compound obtained during the pyrolysis are 3- pyridinecarbonitrile, myosmine and nornicotine, which are precursors of NNN. When NNN is mixed with SBA-15, the decomposition of the NNN nitrosamine is favored at low temperatures where the yield in pyridine compounds increases. The catalysts modify the temperature and intensity of the processes, especially under an oxidative atmosphere where the residue is oxidized, showing a third loss of weight. These materials modify the compositions of gases, mainly under an O2 atmosphere (3-pyridinecarbonitrile and myosmine showed the major effect). SBA-15 with fibrous morphology obtains the best reductions at pyrolysis conditions.Financial support for this investigation has been provided by the “Conselleria d’Educació, Investigació, Cultura i Esport” (grant numbers IDIFEDER 2018/009 and PROMETEO2020/093)

Thermo-optical performance of a solar funnel cooker

    Get PDF
Funnel type solar cookers are simple, effective and have multiple advantages in practical use, but there is limited data available in scientific literature about their thermo-optical performance. This work aims to fill this lack of data. A well known model of solar funnel cooker has been subject to a series of experimental tests, indoor and outdoor, using different working fluids (water and oil). The experimental data has been used to calibrate the parameters of a simple thermal model. The calibrated model predictions show good agreement with experimental data and figures of merit describing the thermo-optical performance of the cooker are provided.Universidad de Málaga.
